A Bad Day is A Good Day... only in Autism Land!

"Thank God for bad days in front of therapists, now can we get them to be bad for the Doctor?" So says the note written on the first random scrap of paper I could find when the wife and I were talking earlier.

It seems like we have had a run with crappy doctors lately. We had the Family Doctor who refused to put in referrals to needed services, and then put referrals in all wrong. We had the Developmentalist who said that he is "99.9% sure that Scott is on the spectrum," but refused to diagnose because he feels that the DoD over diagnoses ASD. We have the SLP who decided that our youngest only needs a swallow study, and not speech therapy. :At least the Neurologist and the ABA Therapists are good!

So, back to the original topic! Aiden had a complete screaming, spinning, throwing, flapping, screeching, exorcism inducing fit today while his therapists were at the house. Thankfully the head ABA therapist was here, and got to see what we were talking about when we said that Aiden's bad days are really really really bad. Now we just wish that we could reproduce the fits when we go to see the developmentalist! As one of our good friends in San Antonio used to say, a visit to the doctor is like a snapshot in time. If the child has a good day, they might not get a diagnosis, but if they have a really bad day, they might be diagnosed even lower functioning than they are.

Now if we can just figure out the whole diagnosis we will be good!
